The word entertain is derived from the medieval Latin intertenere, which in turn is related to the Indo-European root ten, meaning to hold. It has become associated with amusement, although entertainment may have a serious purpose as well (ceremony, celebration, religious festival, or satire for example). Entertainment evolves and can be adapted to any scale, from the personal enjoyment of private products such as films or music; to banquets and parties adapted to two people or an audience of thousands. The familiar forms of entertainment are capable of crossing over different media and have demonstrated a seemingly unlimited potential for creative remix.
