Entertaiment is a broad concept that includes activities that provide pleasure and fun, require audience participation and occur in passive form. It involves an activity understood objectively, communication between text and audiences from external stimuli, satisfies aesthetic or emotional needs, and entails the consumption of products.
It can be adapted to any scale, from an individual who chooses private entertainment from a now vast array of pre-recorded products, to banquets for two, to performances intended for thousands. It may also have a serious purpose, as in ceremony, celebration or religious festival, or may be used to convey social commentary or satire.
