Entertaiment is a general term that includes activities such as watching movies or television, playing video games, sports, attending concerts or musical performances, reading novels, short stories, poetry and other literature, and creating or appreciating visual art. In addition, entertainment may also refer to activities that provide insight or intellectual growth for the viewer or reader.
The word “entertainment” is derived from the Latin inter-tenere, meaning to hold inside. Similarly, the word ten comes from the Indo-European root tenere, meaning to stretch or extend. This is a perfect analogy to describe the nature of entertainment, which can be stretched and adapted to various mediums and genres.
