It is a very important part of our life, which provides us with the best entertainment. Various forms of this entertainment can be found in movies, games and TV shows. Music also provides entertainment. But it is important to remember that some forms of this entertainment are inappropriate for children.

Entertainment is a word that entered the English language in the late 15th century, from Old French entretenir “hold together, stick together, support” (from entre- “among”; see inter-) + tenir “to hold inside” (from Latin tenere, from PIE root *ten-“to stretch”). The sense of “gratify, amuse” is 1620s.

A common suffix of Latin origin forming nouns indicating the result or product of an action (as amazement, betterment, merriment). The suffix is inserted as -ment after verb stems ending in –er and –ir; with other verb stems it is added as –e- (as in commence-e-ment from commenc-er, sent-e-ment from sentir). Also used in many forms of the noun entertain.
